July 4th, 2026, will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence – the Semiquincentennial. Happy 250th Birday America!
I remember the 200th anniversary – the Bicentannial – in 1976. We lived near Washington D. C., and we went to the Washington Monument to watch the fireworks.

Of course President Trump is throwing a shindig. He ordered the reflecting pool get a new coat of blue paint; it’s already full of green algae. He had a cage built on the White House South Lawn to host “UFC Freedom 250, an MMA event held as part of the country’s 250th birthday and President Trump’s 80th birthday.” There was supposed to be concerts, but a lot of the singers dropped out, so I think he’s going solo and having a rally.
In late May, the president canceled his Freedom 250 concert series at the Kennedy Center after six of the nine musical acts canceled their appearances. The series was part of the Great American State Fair, featuring artists such as Vanilla Ice, Bret Michaels, and the surviving duo of Milli Vanilli.
Anywho, the Great American State Fair kicks off June 25, on the National Mall. It will feature pavillions of US States and Territories; several opted out from attending. It will run until July 10.

The irony about all of this hype and buzz words – Freedom 250, America 250, Great American State Fair – is they won’t age well. We’ll forget about it next year.
